About Gatsby and the Nature of Obsession
Love is an obsession. When someone falls in the love the brain lights up in a small section that doesn't seem too important until you know what else lights up that region. The region that lights up in love is the same as when people using cocaine. Just like drugs once someone gets a taste they crave it more. This is what happened to Gatsby; he got a rush from Daisy once and spent the rest of his life chasing his first high. I think this is why he doesn't drink he doesn't need alcohol because he believes he has something better waiting for him.
